FAQ’s

What is hypnosis / trance?

Trance is a natural state that we all go in and out of many times a day, when we are driving a regular route, even when we are watching TV. Trance is when the conscious and the subconscious mind come together in focus and you can access your vast intellectual resources and get the very best out of yourself. Hypnosis is an inwardly focused state, some think of it a bit like daydreaming. It is not sleep.

How will hypnosis feel?

Everybody’s experience of hypnosis is different. You may hear every word I say or you may find your mind wondering or you may drift off entirely. You do not have to be relaxed to be in hypnosis, but most people describe being very relaxed during and after the sessions.

Is hypnosis mind control?

All hypnosis is self hypnosis. You cannot be made to do anything that you do not want to do. This is why your desire to make a change and commit to the process is so important in order for our sessions to be successful. Hypnosis is a collaborative process between the therapist and the client, and the client remains in control at all times.

What will happen in a session?

In each session, I will ask you about what good things have been happening this week. This helps to engage your left prefrontal cortex, enabling you to be in a positive state of mind for the trance work. We will also have a positive solution focused discussion.

We will scale how you are feeling and each week we will be setting small achievable goals to help you move up that scale and get to where you want to be.

We will then go in to the trance / hypnosis, which will help consolidate our positive discussion and help switch your mind to ‘solution focused’ mode. It will also leave you feeling deeply relaxed and stress free.

How many sessions will it take?

This can vary depending on the problem and the client. Often 8-12 sessions can be enough to see lasting changes, but it may take more or less than this. You will know what is right for you and this can be discussed at our initial consultation.

Phobias can often be overcome within 3 sessions.

How effective is it? Does it work?

As with everything, the more you put in, the more you will get out of it. Your belief in hypnotherapy is not important but your desire to change will affect your outcome. If you really want to make a change, are willing to engage with the sessions, take on board the information provided and listen to the MP3 recording to support you in between sessions, you will see positive changes.
